About this work:
My work arose from my fascination with beauty and simplicity. In a fast world in which excess rules supreme, a pure and simple image gives me a sense of peace. I only need a good model, my background and nice lighting. I intend to use a minimal amount of make-up and styling. I do this all by myself. The result is a pure image. It is just me and the model. This enables me to capture the innocence and frankness of a person.
These pictures were all shot against an unfinished wall in my studio. Just simple portraits of beautiful models. Sometimes the reality is fascinating enough in itself.
Without having studied photography, Maarten Schröder (1987, The Netherlands) has developed himself in little over a year to be a notable photographer. There has been a lot of positive feedback from the people who came in contact with his work, even the well-known Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf has expressed his support.
In his work, Maarten searches for the ultimate form of simplicity, but at the same time manages to capture reality in an estranging way. He has been collaborating with many Dutch modelling agencies, as some in Milan, which helped him develop his portfolio which contains so many beautiful and interesting faces.
For an exhibition in Amsterdam, a select group of artists were chosen to display some of their creations, three of his photographs were selected to debut as the first photographic work shown.
